Have you been laid off? quit? "mutually parted ways"?
How did you balance the soul-crushing anxiety of no longer getting a paycheck with the uncertainty of the job market and still take time to recover?
I'd like to share some strategies I've used in the past few years that helped me get back up again.
They're never gonna keep you down.
As soon as you leave a job, you get a new one, even if you didn't realize it - it's "finding a job" and it's a full time gig that doesn't pay and kinda sucks. It's really easy to get caught up in that search, but you need to treat it like any other job. Give it structure, give it the respect it deserves, take breaks.
If you aren't already burned out from your previous job, you need to find balance for recovery while you search. You will end up burnt out still and that won't help with interviews OR putting your best foot forward!
I've been in this position 4 times since 2019, and I've both started 2 days after my previous job and have had the (very pre-planned) privilege of of taking two months off. I'd like to talk about my experiences and some of the coping strategies I've used to keep myself from burning out and have a healthy balance so you can rock your new job!
Scott has done most of the things in devops and many of the things in other types of ops and dev. Doesn't really like long walks, but does like cats, the sound of a 2400 baud Hayes Smartmodem, and learning things from people. According to some people, I'm contractually obligated to mention AIX in any conversation about software that's more than 10 minutes long.
