DESCRIPTION:As software systems and the teams building them grow\, so does
the complexity of the infrastructure and tooling. Teams often start by bu
ilding with a monolithic framework (such as Ruby on Rails\, Laravel\, etc.
) that provides a wealth of functionality out-of-the-box\, and they host t
heir application on a single server or on a Platform as a Service. Eventua
lly\, many teams encounter a scenario where the built-in capabilities are
no longer sufficient. They find themselves needing to stray from the golde
n path\, either by ripping out some component from their monolith or movin
g to a more flexible hosting solution. This is the DevOps chasm.\n\nWhat s
eems like a relatively small application change leads to a potential explo
sion in complexity for the building\, configuring\, deploying\, operating
\, and monitoring of applications. This talk explores these challenges\, e
xamines why they exist\, and discusses how to approach DevOps to minimize
 wasted effort as systems grow.
