The Computers We Deserve
2025-09-15 , Bierstadt Lagerhaus Stage

The DevOps community has given many of us practitioners a supportive space to connect and learn from each other. Our practice is mature, and we have the secure, flexible, interoperable systems our businesses deserve... but what about the computers we use away from work? Are these computers living up to their promises?

The DevOps community has given many of us practitioners a supportive space to connect and learn from each other. Our practice is mature, and this helps us look out for each other and do the right thing. While the pathologies that beg for The Cure of DevOps may never cease to plague our teams and organizations, research shows that we can collaboratively build software with speed through communal learning. We have the secure, flexible, interoperable systems our businesses deserve... but what about the computers we use away from work? The computers in our homes, cars, and pockets? Are these computers living up to their promises? Who is the authority on that?

In this session, Leigh Capili will walk through the story of technology's promises and failures to us.
Let's reflect, unpack, and fight for the computers and services we deserve.

Leigh is an empathetic speaker and developer with niches in cloud-native systems and security. He has a background in building software to manage infrastructure.

Leigh authored kubeadm’s etcd mTLS implementation and Flux 2’s multi-tenant security model.

Leigh maintains Flux, works with the ControlPlane team, and previously built Developer Experience and Platform with Flox, VMware, Weaveworks, Beatport, AT&T, and DIRECTV.

Leigh and his wife enjoy snowboarding and have a 60lb dog named Pepsi.
