Finding the right venue for you DevOpsDays conference can be a challenge. What makes a good venue? How do you compare and contrast them? And how do you navigate a sea of fees to calculate the final cost? In this talk I'll walk through the lessons I've learned as the venue lead for DevOpsDays Austin over the last decade.
The venue selection is the most important part of DevOpsDays. It decides everything from how many sponsors you can have to the number of talks you can fit in. Contracts can make it unnecessarily difficult to back out of, even in the face of a worldwide pandemic. As the venue lead for DevOpsDays Austin, I've been fortunate enough to be put in a position to learn the hard lessons. In this talk I'll walk you through the considerations for the venue so that you can make your DevOpsDays successful.
I'm a Technical Principal at Liatrio. My job is to help enterprise customers improve their DevOps capabilities through pairing and mentoring. I've been an organizer for DevOpsDays Austin for a decade and am also an organizer for Cloud Austin, one of the largest Meetups in town. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, tinkering with my home automation, and checking out the many wonderful breweries in town.
